Colville High School Equestrian riders, Serina Bowlin, Emily Blanchard, Mary Larsen, Kialeeh Harris, Kielah Smith, Madison Sphuler and Kamryn Curtiss competed in the 2016 WAHSET state meet in Monroe May 13-15.
Performance riders Smith and Bowlin qualified to ride in dressage and hunt seat over fences. Bowlin placed in the top ten in Hunt Seat Over Fences. The Canadian Flags team of Larsen, Blanchard, Harris and Sphuler placed tenth.
Riding in Figure 8 competition were Curtiss, Sphuler and Larsen. Blanchard and Larsen participated in Two Man Birangle. Team sorting competitors from Colville were Harris and Larsen.
The pole bending and barrels competition was cancelled in Monroe because of unsafe footing in the arena. Larsen, Smith and Sphuler completed those sections of state competition on June 5 in Wenatchee.
Larsen finished her high school equestrian career winning the state championship in steer daubing.
CHS equestrian riders had a great season of district and state competition. Local awards and state WAHSET patches were presented to team members May 25 at the Equestrian Awards Banquet.
Most improved Performance Rider was awarded to Natalie Gumm. Sphuler received a plaque for most improved timed events rider. The Coaches Award was presented to Harris. Bowlin received a plaque for high point Performance Rider. Larsen received high point Timed Events Rider, as well as Overall High Point and Most Inspirational.
The coaches will be meeting during the summer to plan for next season. Any riders interested in joining must be enrolled in Colville High School, registered for home school through Colville School District or live in the Colville School District. Information for new members is available in the Colville High School office.
