Eleven of 13 CHS riders finish in top five at Spokane meet

SPOKANE—The Colville High School Equestrian Team en­joyed much success at their second District meet in Spo­kane April1-3.
Eleven of the team’s 13 rid­ers placed in the top five in a variety of events.
Serina Bowlin is leading the team in Performance classes and Mary Larsen is leading in Timed (gaming and cattle) events. Serina Bowlin fin­ished third overall in dres­sage; fourth in hunt seat and second in hunt seat over fences.
Keilah Smith finished sec­ond for meet number two in hunt seat over fences and third in hunt seat equita­tion.
Larsen leads the team in timed events with first place for the meet and the season in steer daubing, second in fig­ure 8, first with partner Emily Blanchard in birangle, first with teammates Madison Sphuler, Emily Blanchard, Kialeeh Harris in Canadian flags.
Larsen and teammate Kialeeh Harris have also qualified for state competition in cattle sorting.
Madison Sphuler and Natalie Gumm placed fourth in cattle sorting at the Spo­kane meet. Keyrsten Stinson placed fourth in barrels, with Kamryn Curtiss in third for the season. Curtiss is in first for the season in figure 8 with team- mate Madison Sphuler in second for the season.
In pole bending, Emily Blanchard is in second for the season.
Kamryn Curtiss and Madi­son Sphuler are tied for fifth for the season in Individual Flags.
Both team A and team B for Cana­dian Flags are hoping to make it to state competition with the top three teams in district qualifying for state. Team A members, Madison Sphuler, Emily Blanchard, Mary Larsen and Kialeeh Har­ris are in first; Team B riders, Brianne Blanchard, Natalie Gumm, Karsyn Pierce and Keyrsten Stinson are in third for the sea­son and need to hold onto that standing at the next meet in order to qualify for state.
The final district meet is April 22-24 in Wenatchee, followed by the state meet in Monroe on May 12-15.
