of experienced players

The Colville High School volleyball team started their season off picking up three victories in the August 31 Jamboree held at CHS.

“The jamboree is like a warm-up for the regular season. The girls have a chance to get the jitters out before their first league match, and we are able to play around with a couple different rotations in a more relaxed setting,” explained head coach Jacque Bassett.
Colville had close games against Chewelah (25-22, 25-18). Sophomore middle blocker (MB) Brooke Stutzer lead the team with two blocks. Senior outside hitter (OH) Riley Merritt led the attack with five kills.

In the matches against Mt. Sentinel, the Indians played a more one-sided game, winning 25-9 and 25-8. Senior OH Kaitlyn Petrey led in kills with a total of six. Junior libero Jaden Power, who also plays for the junior varsity team, led the team with three aces. With 11 assists and two kills, senior setter Kora Pitts played a key role in the decisive matches.

In the third game of the jamboree the Indians faced the Kettle Falls bulldogs. For the first match Colville won without much resistance (25-8), but Kettle put up a strong fight in the second game, closing the distance to 25-16. Everyone was contributing in this game. Petrey had four aces, Hallie Cox, junior who plays opposite hitter (OPP) and middle, had two aces and six assists. Sophomore Molly Schauls, OPP and OH, had three aces and three kills, senior middle Cortney Schuh had three aces and Pitts had nine assists and one block. Merritt and Stutzter led in kills with five each.

Colville was scheduled to play against Deer Park at CHS on Tuesday. Their next game is against Riverside at CHS on September 7. Game time for junior varsity is at 5 p.m., varsity plays at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday the team plays at the Lakeland Invite at 8 a.m.
