Colville faces Chewelah in battle of NEA leaders

Colville High has played a succession of Northeast A League softball second division clubs in recent days. Whether that lack of any real competition will hurt the league co-leaders (9-1) this week against Chewelah (8-2) remains to be seen.
Chewelah looks to have one of its best softball teams in several seasons this spring. Jenkins High, who last week swept a Deer Park team that was expected to contend for another State 1A berth, will be a stern test for the Indians of head coach Jim Ebel.
“The fact that they were able to beat Deer Park in a doubleheader just confirms to me how good they are,” Ebel said of Chewelah. “We are going to have to play well.
“Chewelah is just like us. They’ve improved a lot since last year. Whoever plays better on Thursday will win.”
Yes, that’s usually the way it works.

JHS will host

After key match-ups with Chewelah on Thursday, May 5 in Colville (4 p.m.) and the return engagement at Chewelah on Tuesday, May 10, the Indians will end the NEA regular season with a doubleheader at Medical Lake Saturday, May 14.
The District 7 Tournament will be held May 17 and May 21 at Chewelah. At stake are three berths to the State 1A Tournament May 27-28 in Richland.
