Busy summer for wrestlers

Staff Writer

Colville High wrestlers (and one of their coaches) will be busy this summer, competing on national and international wrestling stages. Pictured from left: TJ Baun, John Knight, CHS assistant wrestling coach Hedj Nelson, Trevor Morrison, Tyler Baun and Trent Baun. Senior-to-be TJ Baun leaves June 12 for the U.S. Air Force Academy recruitment camp (Colorado Springs, CO). He’ll be back June 18, just in time to fly out on June 20 for Tulsa, OK, where he has been selected to compete (138 pounds) on the National USA Dual team (National Duals). Coach Nelson, 56, plans to participate in the Veteran World Greco and Freestyle Tournaments later this summer in Finland and Poland. Back in April, Nelson captured the USA Veterans National title in Greco for the third straight time (Las Vegas). Knight (152-pounds) leaves June 13 for York, PA, where he will compete as a member of the Cadet National team. The sophomore-to-be will return June 19. Morrison (126 pounds) will also head to York as part of the Cadet National team. Tyler Baun will attend a regional training camp in Kennewick on June 10. Trent Baun, an incoming sophomore at CHS, was selected as the 132-pounder on the Cadet National team. But because of other commitments, he will forego that opportunity to attend the training camp in Kennewick before boarding a flight to Japan on June 18 as part of a wrestling cultural exchange program. The Baun brothers, Morrison and Knight will leave July 13 for the Fargo, N.D. National Tournament (Greco and Freestyle). TJ Baun is making his third trip to Fargo. A tip of the cap to ServePro (sponsored all the boys’ national team gear), Country Chevrolet, Colville Mat Rats, Colville USA Wrestling, Fogle Pump & Supply and Brown Boys for their sponsorship roles.
