2016 Tiger Tri

Missoula, MT triathlete and Colville High graduate Jesse Carnes wasn’t pushed in his latest Tiger Triathlon win last Saturday under cloudy skies. The 31-year-old covered the course from the Little Pend Oreille Lakes, down Highway 20 to Dominion/Rotary Trail in 1:41:47.
The former CHS cross-country standout was a model of consistency, emerging from Lake Gillette with the third fastest time (14:16). He was also the third fastest bicyclist from the lake to the back parking lot at CHS (54:17). Carnes also finished the run around Rotary/Dominion Trail in a fastest in the field 30:39.
Carnes was never really pushed. Finishing second individually was Colville’s Josh Ricks in 1:57:52. Third was Amilcar Lopez of Spokane (1:58:49. Finishing fourth was Donald Belfsils of Mead (2:01:17).
“It was slower than in the past,” Carnes said after the race was over. “There was no one behind me to spur me on. And I wasn’t chasing anyone this time. That helped me last year.”
First female across the line was 40-year-old Jamie Caine of Spokane (2:06:03). Fellow 40-year-old Kasi Snider of Spokane Valley was second (2:13:07). Sharon Underwood, 61-years-young, was third (2:15:51). Finishing fourth was 34-year-old Merryam Tobey of Spokane (2:16:28). Fifth was Mandi Bingham of Cheney (2:18:18).
Team winner was Swim, Spin + Running In from Spokane and Colbert (Brent Schlangen, Mark Smith and Scott Thompson) in 1:50:32.
Second was the team of Your Pace Or Mine (Katie Caudill of Greenacres; Samantha Knapp of Spokane and Adreinne Glasheen of Liberty Lake) in 1:51:21.
Seventy-nine triathletes finished (43 males and 36 females).
