Family loses house in fire

The fire that leveled the house belonging to Steve and Christie Adams last Wednesday (Jan. 21) may have taken the family's material possessions, but the community is stepping up to try and fill the void. A benefit dinner and auction is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 6 at the Stevens County Ag. Trade Center in Colville. The dinner starts at 6 p.m. consists of spaghetti, garlic bread and salad. Dinner is catered by TJ's and there will be a no host bar. The auction starts at 7 p.m. Cost to attend the dinner and auction is $25 and cost to attend just the auction is $10.

Colville council has yet to chose a mayor

The Colville City Council was faced with a difficult decision last Tuesday evening when they debated who should be mayor in the wake of Colville Mayor Deborah Rarrick’s death.
Rarrick, who was just shy of finishing her four-year term by 10 months, passed away in December due to brain cancer.
Council member and Mayor Pro Tempore Nancy Foll and Interim Mayor Pro Tempore Lou Janke handled the majority of city business while Rarrick was on sick leave.

Chamber will be having a Ribbon Cutting with Joe Christensen—State Farm Insurance at noon this Thursday, Jan. 22. His office is located at 775 S. Main Street, Suite B in Colville.

The Home & Garden Show 2015 will be at the Community College on March 20-21. Chamber has mailed registrations out last week. If you have not received yours in the mail and/or would like to attend, stop by or call us for a form!

Neil Patrick Harris will host the Academy Awards on February 22 and the list of who will be nominated for an Oscar has been announced. Grand Budapest Hotel and Birdman lead the nominations list with nine each. Meryl Streep nabbed her 19th nomination, and Bradley Cooper earned his third consecutive acting nod. Four Brits were nominated this year in the Best Acting categories, Felicity Jones has been nominated along with fellow British actress Rosamund Pike and Eddie Redmayne and Benedict Cumberbatch.

Public invited to welding show at CHS

Colville High School weld shop will have a Welding Trade Show open to the public on Wednesday, Jan. 21 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. New welding and cutting machines will be available for use, as well as new tools. Steel and aluminum weld processes will be demonstrated so that attendees may have hands-on experience. Anyone with an interest in welding and cutting processes is invited to attend. Those attending should drive to the back of the high school. The gate to the weld shop will be open.
