Kirry wins State title, Cox leads Colville’s efforts

In Cheney, at the 1A State Championships, Colville and Chewelah both sent multiple athletes, but the Cougars brought home a state title with Lillian Kirry’s 45.45 first place finish in the 300m hurdles.
Kirry also finished fifth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 15.78, just behind teammate Maggie Cobb’s 15.57 fourth place finish. Cobb also finished in 12th place in the triple jump with a distance of 33’4.5” and 13th in the long jump with a distance of 15’8”.
Krystan Miller took third in the shot put with a throw of 37’4.5”. Conner Krouse also finished third in the shot put, with a throw of 52’11.5”, while Brenden Flanagan finished in 16th place in the long jump with a distance of 18”11.25”.
All of high placers gave the JHS girls team a score of 25 points and a 11th place overall finish in the state team scoring.
Colville’s efforts were led by Josie Cox’s second place finish in the discus with a throw of 120’9”, Cox also finished in eighth place in the shot put with a heave of 34’7.25”. On the boys’ side CHS’s Kameron Strobel finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 20’0.25” and 14th in the triple jump with a distance of 40’9.5”. Jakob Larson took 13th place in the triple jump, just besting Strobel with a jump of 41’1”.
