The teams will be meeting Riverside and Lakeside for their first league meet in a double dual on Wednesday, September 27. The first race begins at 4 p.m.
The quiet reserve of Old Kettle will transform into a mass of excited runners and screaming spectators hurtling through the autumn colors along the shores of Lake Roosevelt this Saturday, September 30. The Annual CAN-AM Invitational Cross Country Meet, hosted by Colville High School, will bring 19 high school and 11 middle school teams to one of the largest prep school athletic events in the area.
A bevy of volunteers will man the start line, the wooded course trails and the finishing chute. Catching drained and exhausted runners nearing collapse is one of the more stressful volunteer jobs, as is assuring accurate times and places for each of the competitors. CAN-AM continues to draw a following of helpers and enthusiasts after decades of races. The middle school races start the meet off at 10 a.m. A free citizens’ race precedes the awards presentation that will take place at 1 p.m.
